REALITY & MONTAGE: nature | biology | sexuality
According to Ernest Becker American cultural anthropologist and author of the 1974 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Denial of Death, human civilisation is an elaborate symbolic defense mechanism against the knowledge of our mortality. It acts as the emotional and intellectual response to our basic survival mechanism. In this lens-based speculative performance, I tried to investigate the possible rebirth of a human as an inherently empathetic creature, a new form of existence. What if we were as fragile as the most fragile ecosystems, what if a broken stem was in fact the end of the world as we know it? I have designed, performed, and photographed a series of anthropomorphic "looks"/ intimate portraits depicting the scenario of human rebirth in the phantasmagoric kingdom Plantae.
