INTERSPACE ZINE: on international sisterhood
I was born in Lithuania during the last year of the Soviet Union in a tiny collective housing flat in South Lithuania. In 2004 Lithuania joined the EU and we immediately felt Western. This success story became an inspiration to many other post-soviet countries. One of them, Ukraine, we unprecedently chose to cherish in a curious transnational way. Unlike any other migrants, we appreciate the Ukrainians, yet we don't even share the same border. If you hear "Slava Ukraini!" in Lithuania most of the people would respond "Heroiam slava!" (Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!). It is a Ukrainian national salute that appeared among national Ukrainians during the Ukrainian War of Independence of 1917–21.
In the light of the horrifying War on Ukraine happening right now, I urge you to support the human rights organizations you know and trust to help the people of Ukraine reach safety.
